Medical Nutrition Therapy

Welcome to the Medical Nutrition Therapy Effectiveness Systematic Review. Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is an evidence-based application of the Nutrition Care Process. The provision of MNT to a patient/client may include one or more of the following: nutrition assessment and reassessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and nutrition monitoring and evaluation that typically results in the prevention, delay, or management of diseases and/or conditions.1, 2

MNT Effectiveness: Dyslipidemia (2022)

The expert panel focused on the effectiveness of MNT for adults with dysslipidemia on the following outcomes:

  • Lipid profile
  • Blood pressure
  • Anthropometric outcomes
  • Glycemic outcomes
  • Quality of life
  • Adverse events

Key Findings: Moderate certainty of evidence demonstrates MNT provided by an RDN or international equivalent improves lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglyceride levels) in adults with dyslipidemia.
