      There is no evidence that directly supports or refutes a relationship between a patient's intake of omega-3 fatty acid/arginine/RNA-containing nutritional supplement and the reduction of symptoms associated with cancer.

    Is there a relationship between a patient’s preoperative intake of omega-3 fatty acid/arginine/RNA-containing nutritional supplement to improve tolerance and support recovery from surgery and the reduction of complications associated with surgery in gastrointestinal cancers?
    • Conclusion

      One (1) small neutral quality RCT found that preoperative supplementation with an omega-3 fatty acid/arginine/RNA-containing nutritional product 5 days before surgery compared to no supplementation (both groups taking same kcal/day) did not improve tolerance and support recovery from surgery or to reduce symptoms associated with surgery for gastrointestinal cancers. Further studies are needed.
