Preterm Infant Systematic Review Research Questions (2018)

 

Based on the findings from the scoping review, the systematic review will address the following research questions (subject to change):

Macronutrient Research Questions
What is the effect of energy and protein intake amount via enteral nutrition on Very Low Birth Weight (VLBW) (≤1500 grams) preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of protein amount via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of pasteurized vs raw breast milk via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of fat-energy amount via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of breast milk fortifiers on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of type of breast milk fortifier on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of type of fat intake via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of protein type via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the effect of formula enrichment via enteral nutrition on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?

Human Milk vs. Formula Research Questions 
What is the association of Mother's Own Milk (MOM) intake vs formula intake on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the association of MOM and/or donor milk intake vs formula intake on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
What is the association of donor milk intake vs formula intake on VLBW preterm infant outcomes?
