Inclusion Criteria:
- Aged two to 17 years
- Admitted to participating medical and surgical wards during each phase of the study.
Exclusion Criteria:
- Hospital admission of less than 24 hours
- Unable to obtain weight or height measurement
- Children under age two years
- Children attending a dietitian (development phase).
Research Purpose:
To develop and evaluate a quick, simple and reliable nutrition screening tool for use by nursing staff in the early identification of under-nutrition in children admitted to hospital.
Blinding efforts:
For the evaluation phase, RNs were trained to administer STAMP. Single RD completed all nutrition assessments in both development and evaluation phases; another RD completed nutrition assessments independently on a convenience sub-sample of participants in both the development and evaluation phases.
