Inclusion Criteria:
Premenopausal women; age 25 to 50 years; BMI 27 to 40; stable body weight over the previous 2 months; medication was stable for at least 3 months
Exclusion Criteria:
Self-reported hypertension (except for those whose blood pressure was stable using antihypertension medications); type 1 or2 diabetes mellitus; heart, renal, or liver disease; cancer or active neoplasms; hyyperthyroidism unless treated and under control; any medication use known to affect weight/energy expenditure; alcohol intake of at least 3 drinks/d; pregnancy; lactation; no menstrual period in the previous 12 months; plans to become pregnant within the next year.
Research Purpose:
To determine if adherence to a LF-diet versus LC-diet differs between insulin-resistant (IR) and insulin-sensitive (IS) participants.
