PWM: Behavioral Interventions Targeting Parents (2006)
There are a number of types of behavioral training for parents used in treating childhood overweight. At this point we have examined the research on parental modeling.
-
Intervention
What is the effectiveness of family-based counseling including parent training or modeling as part of a multicomponent pediatric weight management program to treat obesity in children (ages 6-12)?
-
Conclusion
Using family-based counseling including parent training or modeling as part of a multi-component pediatric weight management program results in significant reductions in weight status and adiposity in children 12 years and younger.

Grade: I
- Grade I means there is Good/Strong evidence supporting the statement;
- Grade II is Fair;
- Grade III is Limited/Weak;
- Grade IV is Expert Opinion Only;
- Grade V is Not Assignable.
- High (A) means we are very confident that the true effect lies close to that of the estimate of the effect;
- Moderate (B) means we are moderately confident in the effect estimate;
- Low (C) means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited;
- Very Low (D) means we have very little confidence in the effect estimate.
