An evidence scoping review was conducted to determine availability of literature examining nutrition assessment and intervention in the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) population in order to guide the EAL Cystic Fibrosis systematic review and evidence based guideline. The research question and search plan for this scoping review was:

Research Question
In patients with CF, what is the availability of literature examining efficacy of methods used in the nutrition care process to improve nutrition-related outcomes?

Search Plan

Target Population: All patients with Cystic Fibrosis

Assessment: Studies examining the validity and/or reliability of nutrition assessment methods to measure body composition, nutritional status and energy expenditure, in the CF population

Interventions: Studies examining any nutrition intervention including medical nutrition therapy (MNT), enteral and oral nutrition supplementation, essential fatty acid supplementation, micronutrient supplementation and probiotics.

Outcomes: Any nutrition-related outcome.

Locations: All locations. No limits.

Search Dates: 1997-2017

Study Designs: Validity/Reliability studies (assessment) and controlled and non-controlled trials (intervention)

Databases: PubMed, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Database for systematic reviews
