Inclusion Criteria:
Children for whom full data (i.e., a scored reading or mathematics assessment and parent completion of the USDA food security module) was available at kindergarten; and children for whom the full data were available at both kindergarten and third grade.
Exclusion Criteria:
Children who moved out of the sampling unit; children who moved out of the US; children who did not have full data available.
Research Purpose:
To investigate how food insecurity, over time, related to changes in reading and mathematics test performance, weight and BMI, and social skills in children. This study aimed to determine relationships between household food insecurity and selected dimensions of children’s academic, social and physical development over several years, using a prospective longitudinal study design and modeling techniques that attempt to account for bias.
