Inclusion Criteria:
Diet or physical activity interventions or both 0-5, 6-12 or 13-18 years of age; RCTs; educational, health promotion, psychological, family, behavioural therapy, counselling, management strategies; community, school, preschool, child care, home, health care settings.
Exclusion Criteria:
Authors excluded RCTs of interventions designed specifically for the treatment of childhood obesity and RCTs designed to treat eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa; any drug or surgery interventions, as these are treatment interventions; RCTs that were exclusively focused on breast or bottle feeding; RCTs that focused solely on strength and fitness training (not aimed at obesity prevention).
Research Purpose:
The main objective of the review was to determine the effectiveness of a range of interventions that include diet or physical activity components, or both, designed to prevent obesity in children.
