Inclusion Criteria:
2-19 years; included studies had to be randomised controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, or natural experiments with a control group and had to include a follow-up duration of minimum 12 months (with the exception of school-based and preschool-based studies, for which follow-up could be 6 months to allow for the shorter length of a school year, consistent with previous reviews).
Exclusion Criteria:
A study was excluded if it: (1) did not report BMI, BMI Z score, BMI percentile, waist circumference, body fat percentage, skinfold thickness, or prevalence of overweight or obesity as a primary outcome; (2) did not statistically compare outcomes between the intervention and control group; (3) included only overweight or obese children or children with medical conditions; (4) was not primarily done in one of the settings of interest (eg, it was primarily done in primary care); (5) was not published in English; or (6) was not available as full text (ie, only an abstract was available).
Research Purpose:
To synthesise the existing global evidence on childhood overweight and obesity prevention strategies in school, preschool, community, and home settings.
