Inclusion Criteria:
Unintentional weight loss greater than 5% during the last 12 months and/or BMI <20 kg/square meter; low physical activity level (
Exclusion Criteria:
Age under 75 years; BMI >30; non-walkers; people with recent cardiac problems requiring hospital care; recent hip fracture or surgery during the last 6 months; present cancer treatment; stroke within the last 2 years; less than 7 of 9 points on the short form of the Mini-Mental Examination; institutionalization
Research Purpose:
To describe the effects of a physical training and nutritional intervention program on the physical activity level and activities of daily living (ADL) in frail elderly people.
Blinding efforts:
Neither the test leaders or participants were blinded. The same test leader conducted all physical performance measurements on all occasions but did not take part in the physical training program.
