Inclusion Criteria:
Body mass index [BMI] = 26-44 kg/m 2; postmenopausal woman
Exclusion Criteria:
Unstable medical status; history of eating disorder or substance abuse; severe mental illness; previously diagnosed diabetes; physical conditions affecting body weight (eg, Cushing's disease); recent use of estrogens; medications affecting appetite or body weight; tobacco use
Research Purpose:
We therefore conducted a randomized, controlled trial to quantify the short-term effect of a low-fat, vegan diet on body weight, body composition, metabolism, and insulin sensitivity in overweight, postmenopausal women, using for comparison a more moderate low-fat diet.
