Inclusion Criteria:
Participants who had a confirmed diagnosis of COPD (forced expiratory volume in 1 second [FEV1] <80% predicted and FEV1/forced expiratory volume capacity <0.7) and were identified as malnourished using Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) were invited to participate in the study. COPD severity was categorized according to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease criteria. Participants were aged 18 years or older and provided informed consent before study commencement
Exclusion Criteria:
Those with conditions that may affect nutritional status further (eg, cancer, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease), who had an exacerbation in the last 4 weeks at the time of
recruitment, were cognitively impaired, or had other life circumstances that impacted on their ability to participate (eg, pregnancy or anticipated nonattendance due to distance) were excluded.
Research Purpose:
This study investigated whether tailored nutrition counseling could improve dietary intake, nutritional status, functional outcomes, and health-related quality of life (QoL) of malnourished outpatients with COPD.
