Inclusion Criteria:
All eligible patients 60 years or older, presenting to General Medicine Department of Flinders Medical Centre between November 2014 and June 2016 were considered for participation in this study.
Exclusion Criteria:
The exclusion criteria were patients receiving palliative care, patients residing in rural areas, Indigenous Australians and non-English speaking patients and patients unable to give informed consent. Rural patients were excluded due to inadequate funds to travel to rural areas to follow up these participants and Indigenous Australians and non-English speaking subjects were excluded due to lack of funds to seek services of an Aborigine’s Liaison Officer/interpreter.
Research Purpose:
The benefit of providing early nutrition intervention and its continuation post-discharge in older hospitalized patients is unclear. This study examined efficacy of such an intervention in older patients discharged from acute care.
