Parallel and crossover study designs, studies with thorough daily control of food intake, studies with healthy adult subjects, assessed serum lipids, lipoproteins, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, LDL:HDL ration, total:HDL ratio, triglycerides:HDL
Exclusion Criteria:
Before-and-after trials, studies that focused on fish oils, studies with participants <18, studies focused on participants with diabetes
Research Purpose:
The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effect of modifying SFA intake on serum lipid and lipoprotein levels by exchanging SFA with cis-MUFA, cis-PUFA or carbohydrates, in order to inform and contribute to the development of updated WHO recommendations on SFA intake. Effects of TFA were not considered in this analysis.
