Nursing home residents who were assessed to be malnourished or at risk of malnutrition (Mini Nutritional Assessment [MNA]
Exclusion Criteria:
Good nutritional status (MNA > 23.5 points); severe cognitive impairment; snteral feeding; hospital stay 2 >/=6 d during the study period; implanted defibrillator; hemiplegia or severe arthritis
Research Purpose:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a 12-wk nutritional intervention with protein- and energy enriched food and snacks on nutritional and functional status in elderly NHRs at risk of malnutrition.
Blinding efforts:
Randomization of diet according to nursing home ward for practicality in serving diet resulted in blinding to diet type for the residents
