Prospective cohort studies; studies published as original articles; including an exposure group with participants adhering to vegetarian diets; including a comparison group with participants following nonvegetarian diets study outcome the risk estimates of incident stroke - studies that excluded participants with a history of stroke report with longest follow-up length if more than one report, same study
Exclusion Criteria:
Case reports; editorials; review articles; nonhuman studies; studies that did not report original findings; articles that applied a plant-based diet index without identification of a vegetarian diet status; articles that compared the adherence to a vegetarian diet ie, highest quintile to the lowest quintile of vegetable consumption
Research Purpose:
Provide updated evidence on the risk of incident stroke among vegetarians compared to among nonvegetarians by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis of the prospective cohort studies.
