Study Design:
Meta-analysis or Systematic Review
Risk of Bias Assessment Rating:
Critically low
Inclusion Criteria:
Adults aged 18 years and older; plant-based diets (PBD) administered as an intervention, habitually following PBD, or PDB scores/indices as measured by food frequency questionnaire PBD compared to usual or other dietary patterns; LDL-C; TGs; hsCRP/CRP; RCTs, prospective cohort, cross-sectional (only using dietary scores/indices), systematic reviews and meta-analysis
Exclusion Criteria:
Children and adolescents (< 18 years old); non-plant-based dietary pattern; unclear definitions or measurement of dietary exposure; comparisons with other exposures are included with diet vs. comparator, e.g., exercise, fasting etc.; multifactorial interventions; all other outcomes; postprandial lipid outcomes; self-reported outcomes without objective measurements; non-randomized trials, intervention trials without a control/comparator, reviews, case reports/series, editorials, commentaries, meeting abstracts, studies with legitimate expressions of concern
Research Purpose:
Characterizing the relationship between PBDs and lipid, lipoprotein, and inflammatory biomarkers of CVD, and explored how these biomarkers may mediate atherogenesis.
