Studies that reported results of vegetarianism or veganism; with control group who ate meat or omnivorous western diet; hsCRP/CRP; adults aged >/= 18 years; not specific criterion for duration of vegetarian/vegan diet unless RCT when intervention had to be at least 4 weeks long; only published in English or German
Exclusion Criteria:
Studies that tested effect of general healthy lifestyle; studies investigating a modified vegan or vegetarian diet (eg. raw, low-fat, low-CHO, low-Kcal, low-protein, gluten-free)
Research Purpose:
Conduct a systematical review and meta-analysis to investigate the effects of a vegetarian or vegan diet on inflammatory biomarkers in healthy and diseased populations, separately.
