Inclusion Criteria:
Patients with ischemic heart disease who were treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and receiving optimal medical therapy. Age>18 years, stable ischemic heart disease, percutaneous coronary intervention conducted >1 month before study initiation and optimal medical therapy including aspirin and cholesterol-lowering drugs
Exclusion Criteria:
Age <18 years, unstable coronary disease, percutaneous coronary intervention treatment during the preceding 30 days, inability to provide informed consent, already following a vegetarian or vegan diet, vitamin B deficiency, known food allergy, previous bariatric surgery, or life expectancy < 1 year
Research Purpose:
To investigate effects of a vegetarian diet on CVD risk factors in subjects with a history of ischemic heart disease treated by percutaneous coronary intervention, compared with an isocaloric meat diet
