Inclusion Criteria:
> or = 75 years old; admitted to one of two hospitals for acute illness; discharge to community; BMI less than or equal to 24 kg/m2 AND triceps skin fold thickness OR mid-arm muscle circumference below the 10th percentile and/or a weight loss of > or = 5% during hospital stay.
Exclusion Criteria:
Chronic liver disease; chronic renal failure (creatinine above 300 mol/L); terminal illness; cognitive impairment precluding informed consent; nursing home residents
Research Purpose:
This study was designed to examine the effect of oral nutritional supplementation of mildly malnourished older people prepared to take supplements after discharge from hospital
Blinding efforts:
Outcome measures were recorded by un-blinded individual, no placebo used
