Research Purpose:
The authors hypothesized that the addition of natural energy dense ingredients to a standard diet would improve voluntary energy intake and ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) and decrease infections in elderly residents under nursing home care over a prolonged period of time.
Blinding efforts:
Residents, relatives and staff were informed that evaluation of changes in food composition was about to take place, but no further details of changes in diet composition were given.
