Research Purpose:
The primary aim was to evaluate the effects of the intervention on body weight and composition, muscle mass, muscle strength and physical performance. Effects of whey protein supplementation on nutritional status, serum markers of anabolism and inflammation as well as general well-being were secondary targets of this trial.
Blinding efforts:
An external person randomly assigned the group intervention (test vs. control) and kept it sealed until study completion. Fortification of the juice was performed by kitchen staff, not working in any of the study wards.
