Inclusion Criteria:
>/=60 years old; physically independent; free from cardiac or orthopedic dysfunction that would prevent from performing the prescribed exercise or exercise testing associated with the study; not receiving hormonal replacement therapy; completed a previous 8-week resistance training program; sarcopenic obesity, defined as a body fat mass >/=35% combined with appendicular lean soft tissue (ALST) <15.02 kg, assessed by dual X-ray energy absorptiometry (DEXA).
Exclusion Criteria:
Any metallic implant or artificial pacemaker; having undergone surgery; unable to perform the tests and training sessions; failing the medical examination for any reason; refused or unable to give consent.
Research Purpose:
To analyze the effects of whey protein supplementation associated with resistance training on body composition, muscular strength, functional capacity, and plasma-metabolism biomarkers in older women with sarcopenic obesity.
Blinding efforts:
Double-blind. A blinded researcher was responsible for generating random numbers for participant allocation. Both the subjects and the researchers responsible for the RT were blinded as to which supplement was given until the end of the trial.
