Inclusion Criteria:
Patients with GI cancers were defined as patients with primary cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, intestine, colon, or rectum. Studies were included if they involved patients with GI cancer; additional studies were included that involved patients with GI cancer and other cancer locations (eg, lung, gynecologic, prostate) if the patients with GI cancer made up a significant proportion of the study participants and outcomes could not be analyzed separately by site of malignancy. Patients undergoing cancer therapy were defined as those undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy and/or surgery directed at the GI tract. Dietitian intervention was defined as provision of MNT by an RD, dietitian, or nutritionist in the form of counseling, diet advice, oral nutrition supplement, and/or EN- or PN-directed recommendations.
