Inclusion Criteria:
T2DM; age >20 but 7.5% for more than 3 months, with HbA1c fluctuations within +/- 0.5%; BMI >23 kg/m2; had received at least two educational programs on calorie-restricted diets from dietitians.
Exclusion Criteria:
Proliferative retinopathy; severe neuropathy; serious kidney disease (serum creatinine level >2.0 mg/dL and/or with microalbuminuria); serious liver disease excluding fatty liver (aspartate aminotransferase and/or alanine aminotransferase levels >100 IU/L); acute heart failure within 3 months or apparent chronic heart failure; active malignancy; serious pancreatic disease; pregnancy; serious infectious disease; trauma injury; alcohol dependency; not suitable for the study.
Research Purpose:
Evaluate the safety and efficacy of 130g/day low-carb diet in Japanese patients with poorly-controlled T2DM who had received repeated education programs on calorie-restricted diets.
