Inclusion Criteria:
Diastolic blood pressure between 90 and 110 mmHg on three different occasions, no impairment in renal function, no use of antihypertensive drugs during at least six weeks prior to the trial, no use of oral contraceptives, a body mass index of not more than 27 and no history of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus or coronary heart disease.
