Inclusion Criteria:
Aged 30-75 years; overweight/obese individuals (BMI 27-40 kg/m2); HbA1c 6.5-10%
Exclusion Criteria:
Significant heart disease (unstable angina, cardiac failure, or recent myocardial infarction or coronary intervention); stroke within the previous 3 months; renal disease (proteinuria or serum creatinine >0.13 mmol/l); liver disease; malignancy.
Research Purpose:
To determine whether high-protein diets are superior to high-carbohydrate diets for improving glycemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
Blinding efforts:
Study personnel who enrolled participants were blinded to the sequence allocation. Dietary assignment was performed by a third party on the day of the initial dietary counselling visit.
