Inclusion Criteria:
50-70 years old; healthy; overweight or obese (BMI 25-35 kg/m2)
Exclusion Criteria:
Any medical condition which might have affected the study measurements, i.e. metabolic disorders, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, gastrointestinal dysfunction, gastrointestinal surgery or inflammatory diseases; fasting plasma glucose of >/= 6.9 mmol/l; smoking; shift work; excessive alcohol consumption (>7 consumptions per week); medically prescribed diets; slimming diets; being vegetarian; excessive moderate to vigorous physical activity (>/=3 h/wk); reported weight loss or gain of >10% in the past 6 months; medication which could have interfered with the study measurements.
Research Purpose:
To compare the effects of a healthy diet with those of a typical Western diet on fasting and postprandial CVD risk markers in overweight and obese adults
