Inclusion Criteria:
Women with BMI indicating overweight or obesity (BMI >= 28 kg/m2), aged 25-65 years, and at least one other self-reported cardiovascular disease risk factor such as hypertension (blood pressure >=140/90 mm Hg), serum cholesterol >5.5 mmol/L, type 2 diabetes, or current smoker,
Exclusion Criteria:
Previously diagnosed with heart disease, insulin-dependent diabetes, cancer, were pregnant, or had a binge eating disorder, taking medication for a psychiatric disorder, or were involved in another lifestyle intervention program
Research Purpose:
To evaluate the effects of a group-based nondieting program that included intensive training in the relaxation response (P1) and to compare this program with a group-based nondieting program without relaxation response training (P2) and a mail-delivered, self-guided version of program P2 (P3)
